Facens welcomes Guto Requena, internationally recognized architect from Sorocaba

Creativity, innovation and technology are important aspects that Facens values a lot. When they meet, they are able to produce fantastic works and unique experiences for users. This prompted us to open a course in Architecture and Urbanism, with differentials to unite all that is best on our campus, always focused on offering the best experience for students. In March 2020, Facens received the Sorocaban architect, Guto Requena, who spoke with Architecture and Urbanism students about the fundamental role of Architecture in stimulating sensations by combining technology since the beginning of the creative process. The students were able to interact about the practice of concepts worked in the classroom such as: parametric, performative architecture, neuro architecture, digital fabrication and hacking cities. In addition to providing the space for the exchange of knowledge with our students, Facens was honored to be able to contribute to the architect’s creations, which were part of the exhibition “Between bits, atoms and affections”, combining inspiration, interactivity, art, technology and feelings. For this exhibition, the partnership with Facens took place with the use of Fab Lab, our digital manufacturing laboratory, with the production of the exhibition facilities; involvement of students as mediators, in addition to the teachers of our Architecture and Urbanism course with workshops, lectures and discussion tables.

4th North American Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management

Facens Production Engineering Course participated in the 4th North American Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management, in Toronto/Canada, organized by IEOM (Industrial Engineering and Operations Management) in 2019. The student Augusto Ghiraldi got the second place in the International Simulation Competition promoted by IEOM, in the conference. Prof. Dr. Henrique Ewbank was the project advisor and was also present. “Facens Industrial Engineering course is an affiliated member of IEOM and this resulted in the creation of Facens IEOM Student Chapter, which allows students to further integrate with the guidelines of IEOM and the market”, comments José Lázaro Ferraz, coordinator of Industrial Engineering at Facens.

10 years of NASA Simulation Project

In 2020, the NASA simulation project, which aims to bring together university students around the world for project ideas and developments, in which Facens has been actively participating in recent years, completed 10 years. The event that would initially be held on the Facens campus, had an online version due to the pandemic, with illustrious presence of the American space agency, such as Edwin Crues, Mike Conroy, Simon Taylor, among others. The NASA Simulation Exploration Experience (SEE) project brings together students, industries, associations and teachers to break down barriers to employability, building confidence and career capacity as teams develop, test and execute a simulated lunar mission. The proposed mission for 2020 was to return to the lunar environment, with an emphasis on simulations that represent lunar explorations by space agencies. With that, the Facens team developed new exploration federates, which are: lunar probe (space probe), launching pad (launching pad) and a rocket (space rocket). These models designed by the team interacted with models developed in previous lunar missions and, this year, interaction with the Munich team was also carried out, granting many positive points for both teams. And it is already scheduled: in 2021, the project will end at Facens! Wait for it!

IP Facens: new phase

Based on the old IPEAS (Research Institute), the objective of IP Facens is to develop products, processes and services, with high added value, through technological innovation, bringing the market into the University Center and allowing the body student and teacher, real experiences. For this, IP Facens has new Innovation Centers: BRAIN (Artificial Intelligence), CEDEPS (Products and Systems – Former IPEAS), CIT (Cities and Buildings – former BIM and LEMAT), Smart Campus (Smart Cities), IND4. 0 (Advanced Manufacturing – former LMA) and LIGA (Gamification). All of them have already presented relevant results, such as submission of notices, international partnerships with other Research Centers and multinational companies. One of these results was the achievement of the first place in the ROTA2030 Notice, among all the proposals presented. The Institute’s Management is under the responsibility of an Executive Board, Operations Director, to whom the PMO reports and a Market Director, who also manages the Technology Services area, with projects such as Huawei and Emerson.

Through IP Facens, the University Center has partnerships with major companies in the region, such as Emerson, Commscope and ABB. Such partnerships allow research and development of new technologies to be produced, sharing spaces, ideas and experiences. In 2020, activities intensified and Facens achieved excellent results. In addition, with the help of LIGA Facens, IP also facilitated the development of virtual training systems for companies such as Lanxess, ZF and CNH, focused on production lines, parts assembly and maintenance routes, seeking continuous improvement of Law Suit.

Facens holds NASA Science Days in 2020

In the second week of March, the 4th edition of Science Days took place at Facens. The science and technology event, which is open to the public and aimed at young people between 12 and 18 years old and technology enthusiasts, featured NASA workshops and stands, as well as projects and activities by Facens. The main objective of the event is to inspire young people with the possibilities of innovation and technology in several areas.

This year, the big attractions were Gabe Gabrielle, Engineering Director of the United States Air Force Special Operations Command and computer engineer at NASA; Dr. Simone Keller Fuchter, who is currently an advisor in the field of Augmented Reality at Kennedy Space Center, International Space Academy, Space Camp Journey to Mars and Science Days (NASA); and Dr. Kumar Khrishen (NASA), which provides solutions to meet the needs of innovation in Space exploration, developing new Technologies, which includes formulating and leading initiatives to develop innovations that meet these challenges of technological gaps for Space missions.

In addition, the event featured an exclusive exhibition of rare objects from the Space Agency, in addition to unpublished content for the participants. During 12h of event, the public can participate in workshops for rocket development, physical and chemical experiments, augmented reality, residential creations, web development and robot construction. This year, the school that was most engaged in Science Days was EE Antônio Padilha, from Sorocaba. They received an exclusive visit from the NASA team at the school, including Dr. Kumar Khrishen and Gabe Gabrielle.
